About Bearing Arms is committed to provide firearms training to our community. Our courses are designed to go at the pace of the least experienced student. We conduct our training in a classroom, reducing the stress of a loud range, and expect our instructors and students to act professional at all time.
Firearms Training Is All About Attitude
The critical trait required to successfully train in the use of firearms is ATTITUDE, not APTITUDE.
A bad attitude that is disruptive, disrespectful, confrontational, negligent, dangerous, condescending, criminal, threatening, or hostile will be cause for ejection from our classes.
We have never had to exercise this clause as most gun owners are generally polite and very eager to help each other when asked.
We love experienced shooters and there will be optimal time for relating experiences during our classes. However, spirited debates will be stopped for the good of the scheduled lessons. If we ask to cut the stories short, know that we have to keep the class curriculum moving.
We Do Not Sell Firearms
The goal of About Bearing Arms is to teach firearms basics, marksmanship, safety, and discuss products and accessories available in the marketplace. Choosing a firearm and accessories is a very personal experience. We are a training organization, not a retail organization. By discussing the purpose of purchasing a firearm objectively, we can better provide trusted advice on what type of firearm and accessories would best suit your personnel needs.
Having unbiased knowledge about products and pricing will make you better equipped to make the best purchase. When you are ready to buy, you will have a solid foundations on what you want and this knowledge will prevent being pressured into a purchase that you make later regret.
A Note About Laws
We do discuss laws and cases in the news during the process of training. This includes some of the restrictions on where one can bring a firearm. We certainly discuss the importance of having a lawyer. However, we are not lawyers and do not impersonate lawyers. We will likely have high level discussion about cases and regulations, but it is a DISCUSSION. No opinions or discussions should be considered legal advice. Not now. Not ever. If you want legal advice, we can provide a few numbers for lawyers for you, but we do training, not laws.
A Note About Politics
Firearms and the Second Amendment are very hot political topics. It is hard not to have a class without the politics of guns being introduced. While we certainly have our opinions, we are focused on training. There are a number of sites and magazines dedicated to the topics of gun politics and we can certainly provide some (we have even written a couple). However, the focus for About Bearing Arms is to train.
